Davies Arboretum
Davies Arboretum (since 1977) and as the Davies Wildlife Preserve (since 1989) is a civic project run by the garden club.
Plantings are selected by the club for low maintenance and available for subscription by the public for memorials, celebrations, or other tributes. Nearing completion of the 4 “season” mini-gardens (Spring partly uncompleted) & 4 “theme” mini-gardens (deer-resistant & butterfly are under renovation). A 6-part Vertical Garden of top-rated climbing roses & Clematis will get under way in 2007 following a request for more significant memorials. For Arboretum information call 201-768-3814.
In the Wildlife Preserve, Demarest Boy Scouts are beginning a new project to coordinate, mark and clear 5 trails to link the arboretum and the wildlife preserve projects. When completed, the trail system will offer several miles of public access to the woods. For Wildlife Preserve information call 201-784-1435.
What's New?
The Demarest Nature Center's Annual Breakfast in the Woods will be held Saturday, June 14, from 9-11am near the Wakelee Field tennis courts. The trustees and volunteers on the Nature Center will be cooking a great breakfast at no charge. There will be live music and a live animal show following the breakfast. The photo contest winners will be announced. Please bring your own folding chairs. Rain date: June 15.
American Cancer Society's Relay For Life To Be Held In Old Tappan. The Relay For Life of Northern Valley, previously held at Northern Valley Regional High School, Demarest for the past three years has merged with this Relay to form a broader community event. Relay For Life of Old Tappan and Pascack Valley will begin 5:00 p.m. on June 13th and will end 7:00 a.m. June 14th. Sign up and learn more at www.events.cancer.org/ RFLoldtappanNJ.
